Creativity during hard times (We’re born as creative beings)

“This creative energy is impersonal flow of God’s vision that brings joy to the organism when its flow is facilitated through it effortlessly. We block this energy when we fall in the trap of comparison drowning in hopelessness and sorrow.

We all have a hidden creative intelligence that is ready to flow at all times. It is there in each one of us, without exception. However, we block this potent energy’s flow with fear, doubt, and useless mental chatter. I hear many people saying, “I’d love to be creative and spiritual but I’m unemployed right now. I have a family to take care of.”

You see, your being creative or spiritual has nothing to do with your employment status or your family needs. Creativity can be expressed in many ways: you can be creative while interacting with your family, ditching the smartphone and fully engaging with them. Instead of using the spare time worrying about your situation you can enhance your skills or work on a hobby that eases your mind.

Shantideva, an eighth century Buddhist monk said, “If the problem can be solved, why worry? If the problem cannot be solved, worrying will do you no good.”

Worrying about a situation and using it to engage in more of “thinking” is a hinderance to creativity and it doesn’t do a thing to improve your present situation. It leads to anxiety and depression because your mind repeatedly thinks compulsively. Now, worry has a purpose. It’s purpose is to make you aware that a situation needs to be addressed. It can be a job, business, or a relationship. However, drowning in the endless pit of worry, you detach from your creative core that is inborn.

The mind-body complex feels relief from life’s burdens only by being creative. There isn’t one way to be creative. You can make an Excel sheet creatively. It doesn’t require perfection or the right timing. The right timing is NOW.

This creative energy is impersonal flow of God’s vision that brings joy to the organism when its flow is facilitated through it effortlessly. We block this energy when we fall in the trap of comparison drowning in hopelessness and sorrow. When the “me” asserts it’s not good enough.

Life’s troubles never end. First there’s the worry of not having enough, and after having, there’s the worry of losing it. Don’t wait for an optimal time to be creative. If you identify with worrying, you will remain worried despite any situation: good or bad.

For example, those who are worried and waiting for the right job, will remain worried even after getting the job; they’ve build a habit of worrying which has nothing to do with their external status. Those who worry for their family now will remain worried even later. Some new worry will always be there. Surprisingly, there can be a worry about not worrying enough.

Let the creative energy flow right now in whatever form, amount, and capacity you feel comfortable. We don’t have to be ace artists to be creative. But we all are born storytellers. Something as simple as journaling can be a creative act. In fact, hard times are a fuel for creative growth.

Broken hearts give rise to beautiful art and poetry. People have performed extraordinary feats in the face of physical and psychological disabilities; not to prove anything to the word, but to experience the joy of impersonal energy’s flow. The examples are all around you. These people don’t live with their thinking mind, they live with their creative working mind.

Nisargadatta Maharaj said that don’t believe anything that the thinking mind tells you. Be still in this very moment and see what’s bubbling within you. Once you get familiar with the internal chaos, understand its nature without suppressing it, and learn to hold it in a loving presence, you can use it as a fuel to channel creative work.
