HARI OM! RASTA DIJIYE! (Please Give The Way)

Rishikesh, India

Yesterday I played Rascal, and I thoroughly enjoyed it 😂😂

I reached Rishikesh around 5 pm (..ish) and couldn’t wait to go to Ram Jhula. As I was passing through, I noticed a group was clicking pictures in the middle of the structure, blocking the way for passersby. I, along with some people behind me, was waiting for them to finish.

However, this group wasn’t very situationally aware of how they were blocking the way. There was a young Western couple right next to me waiting patiently. I asked them if they were in a hurry, and they said, “Not really, but we’re looking forward to having a good dinner soon, as we’re tired.” In that moment, I thought of a mischief to disperse the crowd. I raised my hands above my head in the namaste position.

While shouting at the top of my lung capacity, “Hari Om! Rasta Dijiye” (Hari Om! Please give way), I barged into the group with complete disregard for their personal space and privacy, powering my way through like a boulder rolling down the hill. It was 100% rude and unapologetic. I was getting blank stares and confused faces. I could hear someone say, “Arrey, kya batamizi hai” (Hey, what imprudence!), but I kept moving.

Since I was uttering the holy words, nobody dared to confront, and I took full advantage of it. As I cut my way through, disrupting the group’s never-ending photo session in the narrow passage of a structure designed for limited capacity, the western couple behind me smiled with their eyes lit up, following me eagerly. Reaching the end of Ram Jhula, we all laughed while the other group continued with their photo session.

Problem solved!

With love,
